What is Love?
It is a state of living. It is more than romance and passion as there are shared values and principles involved such as respect, support and communication. Love requires a lot of understanding and compromises. Sharing goals and evolving together is the key. True love is a long-term commitment that is sure to pass the test of time. True love is long lived while passion is short lived.
What is Passion?
It is more a state of being, it is a temporary phase of excitement and euphoria. Fortunately, it doesn’t last long as we wouldn’t be able to accomplish anything. It could last a few days, a few weeks or even, a few months. Nothing else seems to matter at this stage, you just want to spend all of your time with the person who makes you feel that way.
Now, this can be explained scientifically as the chemicals in your brain will change. It is the release of endorphins that makes you feel happy. Passion spices up any relationship but it doesn’t last. It is quite easy to confuse love with passion. In fact, a lot of people mistake love for sensual gratification. For most men, love is aligned with physical intimacy. They feel love when they are making love.
For most women, feeling loved is when they are emotionally close to their partner. Both physical love and intimacy are important in a relationship but it is difficult to keep the fire of passion, burning. Specially along with career and family responsibilities. Commitment is the glue that holds a family together, not passion.
Commitment is filled with loyalty and dedication. It is the expression of selfless love and will become the strength of your marriage. Commitment means caring, supporting, all kinds of positive actions to fulfill the partner’s needs and desires. Commitment means finding solutions to problems instead of running away from them. Commitment is what is left when the physical attraction is missing or gone. Commitment is the binding force that will overcome challenges and obstacles.
Passionate love stories have their place in Art, Literature and History. They might have ruled the world and the politics, all the way. Numerous writers and musicians have been inspired by those topics. But, there wouldn’t be Love novels or Love songs without experiencing “the highs and the lows” of a Love story!
